"We are God's Dream!"
Children & Family Ministry of Mt. Sylvan UMC
The children of Mt. Sylvan are leaders in our congregation as they live into being a community of God's Dream. They are eagerly learning, growing, and serving together as they live out the values of God's Dream.
In God's Dream...
Because of God's love for us in Christ, the children of Mt. Sylvan
are breaking down the walls between races, ages, and classes
and showing the church that they are the church of today!

Sunday Mornings 9:45 am - Children's Center
Preschool (ages 3-5) and Elementary Age (Kindergarten through 5th grade)
Sunday mornings are spent learning the wonderful stories of the Bible through the curriculum known as Godly Play. This curriculum is a creative, imaginative approach to Christian formation and spiritual guidance, with 40+ years of research and practice. It values openness and discovery through community and relationships. The stories of the Bible come alive with symbols and rituals found in Christian congregations. Children are encouraged to explore their faith in a broader sense through wondering and play. There are stories, play time, and a feast with prayers, which represents the community we have with God and with one another.
8:30 and 11:00 am Worship Services
For preschool and elementary age children, worship bags are available in the church narthex. Bags are divided by age group: yellow bags (Preschool age), red bags (grades K-2), and blue bags (grades 3-5). Each bag contains age appropriate items to keep children engaged during worship services.
Please feel free to take a bag to use and return it to its cubby following the service.
Sundays 8:15 am-12:15 pm
Children who have not yet entered elementary school are welcome here.
If you have little ones, our nursery is the place for you. We are blessed with great volunteers that love kids. All nursery workers have undergone a thorough background check and have been trained to follow Safe Sanctuaries procedures (through the program, churches train and certify persons as safe workers with children and youth in United Methodist ministries).
The nursery is found just down the hall from our fellowship hall, in the education building located across from the church sanctuary. Please ask any church member and they will be happy to point you in the right direction. Nursery is provided for children who have not yet entered elementary school. When you come to our nursery, you will find a warm, friendly and inviting atmosphere. We are honored to be in ministry to them while you are in worship…they are in great hands!
